Something strange has happened.
My world just got shook up.
In a world where I only cook to eat, I just found out that I will be hosting Thanksgiving dinner at my house.
Strange isn't it?
Me, a former Home Ec major, frozen in panic at the idea of cooking a turkey?
I am mentally preparing the list of things needed to make a Thanksgiving Dinner complete.
1. Turkey
2. Gravy
3. Mashed Potatoes
4. Stuffing
5. Green Beans
6. Broccoli Casserole
7. Mac n Cheese
8. Sweet Potatoes
9. Pumpkin Pie (I happen to despise Pumpkin Pie)
10. Apple Pie (did I stutter?)
11. For some reason, I am very tempted to try this....
If anyone wants to help me prep or give me some advice, it is MORE THAN WELCOME!
Otherwise, Boston Market, here I come!
Cook's Illustrated "Make-ahead" book has an entire make ahead holiday dinner. It begins 2 or 3day before hand. I have only made the make ahead stuffing but it was incredible. i am going to try the whole plan this year. They haven't disappointed me yet. Good luck!
ReplyDeletehahah oh my gosh! i would panic at the thought of hosting thanksgiving, but at least you have the fact that you CAN cook on your side! LOL! Anddd, your house is already super cute with your crafts and stuff!
ReplyDeleteGuess I'm an odd duck...pun intended ;) Cause I love to cook/roast turkey. I'd cook them all year if you could find enough fresh ones. My secret is "Gravy Master"...it's a little brown bottle of seasoning in the grocery store in the spice section. Simply clean out the turkey and dry it with paper towels. THEN spread poultry season and Gravy Master all over the cavity and under and on top of the skin. Cut up a onion or two and place them on the bottom of your roasting pan. Stuff a few rings in the cavity along with an orange or two that you've pierced the skin on...and cover the bird with foil and put it in the over. There's more details here on my step by step post: http://con-tain-it.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/08/yummy-in-my-tummy-roasted-chicken-ngravy.html#tp
ReplyDeleteALSO I make my stuffing on the stove...yeah Stove Top and use instant potatoes...another post about that here: http://con-tain-it.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/03/yummy-in-my-tummy-cheesy-barbeque-meatloaf-and-cheater-potatoes.html#tp
FOR years I made instant potatoes and NO ONE knew till my dad caught me and I had to fess up. He was a lover of real potatoes and never could tell the difference. Acutally instant have more flavor then some old ones that have been sitting in your fridge or in cold storage for months ;( Hope this helps...YOU CAN DO IT!!
