The Office - Completed. Well, kinda...

When we first moved into our house, the office became a bit of a catch-all.  Then the Little Man came along.  And things in our office went from cluttered to down-right clogged.  Something HAD to be done.  So after our week long overhaul on the office, I wanted to share a few Before and After's.  Considering that I really didn't do much painting, it took a looooooooooooooong time to complete.  But that's life with a baby...in two hour increments, anything can take you longer!  (Wink!)

And what we have now is so much more user friendly and, let's just say, happy.

A few before's:

Don't mind the mess. It was the primary reason this HAD to be done.  We practically LIVE in this room.  It's just off of our kitchen and houses our tv, all things Techy related, the baby toys, and Gizmo's chair.

(Yes, our dog has his own chair...doesn't yours?)

Techy's desk.  Oh.the.horror.

Part of me dies inside when I look at this before.  It's so horrible.

Next to Techy's desk is my chair and $7 Ikea table, piled high with crafting scraps, from the wreath.

And yes, we are the ONLY parents in the world who still use a pack n play as a playpen.  Little man seriously gets some play on in that thing.  (He would have to in THIS office.  I mean, seriously, it was almost dangerous for me to be in that place, let alone the baby!)

The full wall of closet space in this room.  (Clearly, this picture was taken prior to our inhabitance of the office, as you can distinctly tell, by the lack-o-crap.)

All in all, this place was in desperate need of an overhaul.  Especially considering the little guy roaming around our home these days.

So without further ado, drum roll please

dummmmmmmmmmmmm

dummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

dummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Ta-da!!!!!

And the real secret to decluttering it all...
The closet transformation!
Before

After

Removed the doors to make the unused closet part of the room.  A fresh coat of paint - Glidden's Blue-Gray Slate - and tucking Techy's desk in there (thank God for closet lights that were previously installed!).
This may very well be my favorite place in our house right now.

DIY shelves provide simple storage.  And considering we built them for less than $20 total, they were completely economical.  (1-2x8 cut to length for the shelves and 1-1x2 cut for braces)

Easy Peasy DIY Tack Board (foam core, covered with pre-cut scrap fabric from wal-mart and hung in an unused picture frame)

So happy with the extra space.

I realize the rest of the office needs
to be painted, and I desperately need new curtains.  But that will come eventually.  In the mean time, this closet transformation makes me so happy inside.

And that's saying something considering the horror that was our office before.

I am showing off over at Just a Girl's Show and Share Day

And at The Shabby Chic Cottage's Transformation Thursdays!

  4. Thanks for all the comments, guys! Debbie, the paint color is the closest paint color that Glidden had. I think it's called midnight something. (total fail for a blogged re-do) The shelves are literally lifesavers!
